Carcassonne, also named “la ville aux deux
cités”, is divided into two parts: the fortress and the lower city,
la Bastide St. Louis. This magnificent city is only 45mins-1 hour
away by car. La Cité, became part of Unesco inheritance’s list in
1997, and is the largest preserved medieval city in Europe.
Recently, it has been fully restored. Within the city walls, there
are many hidden treasures: the Basilica, the enormous citadel, the
theatre, the medieval alleys and the small lively squares where you
can treat yourself to a good meal. Try the dish which made this city
famous in the whole of France: cassoulet!
A visit of Carcassonne is a must for those who love medieval romance
and tragedy!
